Cruzin’ Flat Rock COVID 2020 Edition Sept. 12th

August 23, 2020 By Joe Pagano

The “COVID 2020 Edition” of the Cruzin’ Flat Rock and Truck Show is ON and will take place on Saturday September 12, 2020.

Because of the COVID outbreak there are some changes for this year’s show.  Registration fee is FREE because there will only be ONE trophy.  The show runs from 10 AM to 2 PM with registration starting at 9 AM.  The entrance to the show will still be at Huron River and Arsenal.  There will not be a festival this year so we are bringing in a couple of festival style food trucks where you can purchase lunch or you can go to a few of the local restaurants within walking distance of the show.

We ask that everyone practice social; distancing for the safety of participants and for our friends and families visiting along with the spectators.

New this year, because there isn’t a festival tied to the show, there will be a live performance at 11 AM along with a local DJ, “Stay Cold Entertainment” during the Cruzin’ Flat Rock Show.  As in last year’s shown there will also be Door prizes, when filling out the entry form along with a 50/50 drawing.  The money will go for the dog shelter to help purchase food and cat litter.

The “COVID Edition” Entry includes a free T-Shirt for former trophy winners when displaying their trophies.  Cruzin’ Flat Rock T-Shirts will be available for only $5 for others who want purchase one.

Click Here  for a printable version of the registration form.  You can also get the forms at many local Flat Rock stores or restaurants.

Nutrition Hub is Flat Rock Our Hometown August 2020 Featured Business

August 5, 2020 By Joe Pagano

Picture Donna and Jim from their Grand Opening. Flat Rock, Mi.

Donna and Jeff’s venture in business date way back. Jeff joined his father in building custom homes while his wife Donna raised their six children.

In 2002, Donna began to work on a way to start a business that would allow her to stay home, leading Donna to Herbalife. Her mentor told her that to be successful with the product, you need to fall in love with it and believe in it. Well, Donna did. She lost 35 pounds, then Jeff took notice and followed suit.

They both dove headfirst into the Herbalife business and lifestyle. Jeff ended his second-generation home building business and they opened Nutrition Sensation in Monroe in 2010. Their business was going very well but the pair began to look for a location where they could offer more services. Lucky for us, Flat Rock had the perfect location. Huroc Park ended up being the ideal place, with its bike paths to the Metro Parks. This allowed them to create the physical aspect they wanted to include in their healthy lifestyle. In 2016, Nutrition Hub was born.

The center encompasses all aspects of nutrition and health that Jeff and Donna believed would help people achieve their goals, and oh boy has it!
The community has embraced Nutrition Hub; countless people have achieved their goals of a healthy lifestyle. Donna and Jeff’s energy is magnetic. They are so positive; know your name, your goals, your dogs, your kids, and the important events in their customer’s lives. They had a goal to be healthy to be positive and it resonates throughout their business.
The community loves them, and Donna and Jeff show the love back tenfold.

For the Love Bakeshop & Café is located at 28773 Telegraph Rd in the former Premion building, newly rehabbed and home to several new and exciting Flat Rock businesses.

This Flat Rock Bakeshop & Café Plans To Nourish And Sustain the Downriver Community.

For the Love Bakeshop & Café, is a vibrant new bakery café is now at the corner of Telegraph Rd and East Huron River Dr, is the latest on a growing list of eateries and small businesses revitalizing the downtown Flat Rock community. The shop is driven by a sense of purpose around fresh, local, real food. For the Love offers an inviting space accommodating a wide variety of dining preferences from grab and go, to a place to meet up with friends and socialize, and even offers a private dining section for parties, meetings and events.

For the Love will host a fun-filled Grand Opening weekend July 17th – 19th with giveaways, fun events, a local market and more. Space is limited due to current COVID-19 regulations and guests will be served first come, first served.

The creators of For the Love hope to do more than just serve great food. From its beginnings, the shop has been designed to nourish the community in both body and spirit every hour that they are open. From staff whose mandate is to treat all neighbors with familiarity and love, to the authentic and natural food that is served, just as they would serve to their own families. Additionally, The For the Love of Neighbor program was an integral part of developing the eatery and offers a generous opportunity for guests to pay it forward when they can. Neighbors can support their fellow community members in need, by purchasing a Breakfast Break or Lunch with Love Benefit that a guest can use to pay for their meal whether they simply forgot their wallet or truly don’t know where their next meal will come from. The business will even share in the cost by offering a discount for any neighbors who choose to share the love.

“It’s definitely something that’s close to home,” says Nichole Kahl, For the Love’s General Manager, “It’s a great feeling paying your bills on time, but sometimes your food runs out before your next check and that’s ok, it happens.  Our FTLON benefit is there to help those who are in need, in any way!”

For the Love uses Ingredients that are local whenever possible and always the highest quality. The fare is multicultural, based on the creators’ life experiences around the world. The menu includes a variety of breakfast, lunch and bakery items, handcrafted fresh daily. Gourmet sandwiches, refreshing salads and bowls, indulgent bakery goods including cakes, brownies, pastry, cookies and more are just some of what you will find on the counter and in the pastry case. An elevated coffee program includes coffee from several metro Detroit roasters, including the nearby, Monroe-based Frenchtown Roasters. For events and meetings, For the Love offers a full catering menu, which can be served in-house, picked up or delivered to your office or home.

Menu favorites include the, always popular, Vanilla Bean Cake, Salted Dulce de Leche Cheesecake and Double Cocoa Brownies that your mouth just will not believe. WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
