Flat Rock Christmas Passport Program Card for 2022.

Flat Rock Our Hometown along with the Flat Rock DDA are once again presenting the Flat Rock Christmas Passport Program.

We are once again using the Passport Punch Cards system.

Program Information.

  • You will get a passport business card from any participating Flat Rock Businesses. Each card has 6 places in which to punch.
  • All Flat Rock participating businesses will have a card display near the cashier where you can take a card and receive a card punch.
  • Each Passport card is be coated so you can easily clean them.
  • The card will remain in your hand while the business punches it with their unique punch.
  • The program has started for 2022 and end on December 16, 2022.

Note; many stores already have their kits and may ask you if you would like to participate.

Flat Rock Passport Customer Rules and information.

  • Look for the Flat Rock Our Hometown clock decal at local businesses.
  • A full list of participating businesses is available on the Flat Rock Our Hometown Facebook page and on this site soon.
  • Visit local participating Flat Rock businesses and complete the punches on the passport card.
  • You must have punches from at least three (3) different businesses punches on each passport card (i.e. you can get up to three (3) stamps from one business, but the other three (3) must be different participating businesses.
  • Remember that 6 different punches will get you into the SPECIAL Grand Prize drawing for a basket filled with gifts from ALL participating businesses!
  • You get bonus stamps on Small Business Saturday weekend and Winterfest weekend.
  • Fill out your name, address and phone number on the passport card and drop in the box at City Hall for a chance to win your prize.
  • Passports Cards MUST be submitted to City Hall by December 16, 2022, by 12 NOON.
  • Customers can start another passport card for more chances to win. You can fill out more than one card but can only ONE prize per person.
  • The new passport cards can be picked up at any participating store or at city hall, the community center or the local library.
  • The drawings will be held on December 16, 2022 and awarded at the City Council meeting on December 19, 2022.

 

  • NOTE; You are NOT required to be present for the drawing, but we ask that you plan to attend the City Council meeting if you are a winner. The City Council meeting for the drawing will be at 7:30p.m. on December 19, 2022

First – $500, – Second $250, Third – $100 in Flat Rock Dollars.

The Grand Prize is a Basket with something from every participating business.

8th Annual Spooktacular and Trunk or Treat is October 22nd

The 8th Annual Spooktacular and Trunk or Treat is Saturday October 22nd. Spooktacular will take place on East Huron River between Telegraph and Garden Boulevard in Downtown Flat Rock.

All Businesses on East Huron River Drive will be open.

SPOOKTACULAR IS FREE AND OPEN TO PUBLIC.

The Fun starts at 3PM with Music, Food Balloons and More….

DOG COSTUME CONTEST AT 4:00 PM
CHILDREN COSTUME CONTEST AT 4:30PM
TRUNK OR TREAT STARTS AT 5:00 PM

This event is FUN for the entire family including the family dog.

Just a reminder….

Huron River will be closed to traffic prior to and during the event.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday April 9 at City Park

This Saturday, April 9, 2022, is Flat Rock, Our Hometown and Flat Rock Parks and Recreation’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt. It will take place from Noon to 3 p.m. at Community Park, on Gibraltar Rd. west of Aspen Rd., near City Hall in Flat Rock.

The event is free and open to the public and no registration is required.

There will be three age groups:

  • an egg hunt for children 3 and younger.
  • marshmallow drops for those 4-7;
  • And a marshmallow drops for those 8 and older.

Golden Eggs will have special prizes from area businesses.

This year’s event pictures with the Easter Bunny. Parents should bring their own cameras.

Parking will be available at Flat Rock High School or Flat Rock Public Library. The city hall parking lot will be closed so the Flat Rock Fire Department can display their truck.

Restrooms will be available at the city’s warming building.

DDA Fall 2021 Activities and Downtown Projects

Façade Grant Improvements

The Flat Rock Downtown Development Authority has approved two grant applications from business and property owners for façade improvements.

Applications for the grant funds have been received from the proposed Sugar Island Baking Co. at 28773 Telegraph Rd. and for improvements to a parcel at 27500 Telegraph Rd. that formerly housed a sign shop for many years.  The baking company is from Gibraltar and will move in to a site located behind Fifth Third Bank.

Under the façade program, the DDA provides financial assistance to property or business owners wanting to renovate commercial buildings and structures within the DDA district. The assistance is in the form of grants or loans.

Spooktacular 2021

Also, Flat Rock Our Hometown organization in planning the seventh annual Haunted Fall Spooktacular and Trunk-or Treat pre-Halloween celebration set for 3-6 p.m. Oct. 23 in the downtown area. The DDA is providing tables, chairs and tents for visitors to take part in the celebration.

The DDA has hired Grosse Ile Lawn and Sprinkler Company to help illuminate the downtown at night for Christmas.  They have also purchased new decorations from Bronner’s in Frankenmuth to hang on utility poles downtown.

Completion of Telegraph Street Lighting

DTE has finalized a project to adding 44 new street light poles along Telegraph Rd. (US-24) from Ypsilanti to the Railroad Viaduct.  Now all of Telegraph Road in Flat Rock has the newer style LED lighting making downtown a safer place to be.

Masserant’s Feed & Grain – Flat Rock, Mi.

Masserant’s Feed & Grain is a family owned and has been operating since 1982.  Masserant’s is the best place to find unbeatable prices and friendly service in the area.  Masserant’s was started by Gerald Masserant and his three sons: Dave, Ken and Rollin Masserant. The original mill located on Mill St. in Newport, MI was purchased from the Kahlbaum Brothers of Carleton, MI.  . Masserant’s Feed & Grain is currently owned by Dave and Catherine Masserant, Rollin and Brenda Masserant, Pete and Laura Burkhardt, and Kerry and Cheryl Burkey. They have expanded to serve customers at four convenient locations in Newport, Flat Rock, Monroe and Lambertville.

 

The Flat Rock location at 27550 Telegraph Rd. and was added in 1993 to serve the downriver area. The location boasts many of the services found at our flagship store in Newport including: propane refills, brick pavers, wall stone, topsoil, and mulch. Masserant’s Feed & Grain also specializes in pool supplies and chlorine. We have an excellent selection of pet supplies, treats, wild bird seed, and livestock feed.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
