The 11th Annual Cruzin’ Flat Rock Car and Truck Show is On August 10, 2024

Flat Rock Our Hometown along with the Flat Rock Downtown Development Authority and the Flat Rock Community Foundation are presenting the 11th Annual Cruzin’ Flat Rock Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show.  This year’s show will be on Saturday August 10, 2024 across from HuRoc Park.

The 2024 Title Sponsors are Adkins Insurance of Flat Rock and Public Service Credit Union.

The show is FREE for cars and trucks and the first 100 participants will receive a FREE 2024 Cruzin’ Flat Rock Dash Plaque. There is also a motorcycle show with a People’s Choice Award including a Trophy and prize.

The show is open and Free to the public.  This is a family friendly event.  There will be a DJ and live music with food on site and GREAT eating establishments within walking distance of the show area.

The 2024 Show includes.

  • Free Registration on line and on site.
  • Trophies and Prizes Awarded.
  • All Classes and Styles of Cars, Trucks and Motorcycles are Welcome.
  • Motorcycles will have a registration within the show.
  • Registration runs 9 AM until Noon.
  • Show starts at 10 AM Ends at 3:45 PM
  • Registered cars, trucks and motorcycles will get 2 discounted shirts ($5 each) Day of show price is $10 each for everyone.
  • Registered cars, trucks and motorcycles are entered into a door prize drawing. Door prizes pulled every 30 minutes.
  • FREE Cruzin’ Shirt for former Trophy Winners. (You must bring your and display your trophy to receive free shirt)
  • Awards and prizes at 2:45 PM
  • The Cruise starts at 3:45 PM

The show also includes.

  • 50/50 benefits the Flat Rock Animal Shelter
  • The Train Depot will be open and FREE from 11am-2pm
  • DJ music starting at 10 AM
  • Live performance at 11 AM
  • Food on site

The Cruise

For those who want to Cruise down Gibraltar Road, it starts at 3:45pm.  The cruise will start at Arsenal Road near the park entrance, cross over Telegraph and down Gibraltar Road to the Community Center and back to Telegraph Road. All Years, All Makes and Models are welcome to register for the show and the cruise.

Note: to ride in the Gibraltar Road Cruise, you MUST be registered at this year’s show. The show winners will lead the cruise and one of our crew will guide everyone down the Cruzin’ path.

The Cruzin’ Flat Rock show is at 28800 Arsenal Road in Flat Rock, Mi. across from HuRoc Park.

To Enter the show, use the Arsenal and West Huron River Drive near the HuRoc Park Sign.  All other streets will be barricaded to prove more show parking.

Visitors to the show can park on Atwater, East Huron River and Gibraltar Roads.

There will be music with a DJ Michael, starting at 10 AM

Trophy and Door Prize presentation at 2:45 PM

Destination Downriver loves to tell the success stories of small businesses in our thriving communities! Sugar Island Baking Company began in Christy Brinkley’s Home in Gibraltar in 2013. She had been sharing her love of baking with family and friends for many years and was encouraged by some friends to start her own business by creating a Facebook page and offering some items for sale. She was blessed with many wonderful customers and pretty quickly became limited by the capacity of a home kitchen. In 2021, the opportunity to open a brick-and-mortar in Downtown Flat Rock presented itself at a time in Christy’s life when the last of her 4 sons were graduating and life was opening up in a way that would allow her to dedicate her time to growing her small business. She took the leap with the support and expertise of a very good friend, Michelle Kohler, who has been by her side from the beginning.

 

           “Owning a small business is very hard work. I compare it to having a child in the sense that you are aware that it is going to be hard work and you mentally assent and prepare for it – but it is SO MUCH harder than you imagined. But also, extremely rewarding.  We are grateful to be a part of the Flat Rock community – they’ve been very good to us and we’ve made some great friends!”

Monsters Inc. is the next Movie In The Park – June 14th

The First 2023 Movie in the Park is Monsters Inc.  The move will be in HuRoc Park on Wednesday June 14th.  Monsters Inc. will start at 8pm on a giant digital screen.  Get there early to set up and get your snacks.

This year’s movie in the park days are brought to you by the Flat Rock DDA, Flat Rock Our Hometown and the Flat Rock Recreation Department. We also would like to thank the MANY local businesses that sponsored this event.

So get there early enough to get a good seat at this Great Movie In The Park Day.

Downtown Flat Rock Presents the 9th Annual Chalk The Walk at HuRoc Park Sat. June 3rd

The 9th annual “Chalk The Walk” at HuRoc Park takes place on Saturday June 3rd at from 11AM to 1PM. Chalk The Walk is presented FREE to the public. This annual event is a Family Fun Event where artist of all ages can stop by HuRoc Park off of Arsenal Road in Downtown Flat Rock and show off their skills. This Ninth Annual Event and is presented by Flat Rock Our Hometown and the Flat Rock Downtown Development Authority. Chalk the Walk is sponsored by Michelle Davis Group at RE/MAX Masters, Flat Rock who provides the chalk to artist of all ages, and Biggby Coffee of Flat Rock who will provide drinks for the young ones.

We thank both of these local businesses for their support.

Artist of all ages are welcome to draw on the walkway around HuRoc Park.

  • Chalk will be provided in various colors to the First 100 Artists.

  • An adult must be present to chaperone any artiest under 13 years old.

Flat Rock Christmas Passport Program Card for 2022.

Flat Rock Our Hometown along with the Flat Rock DDA are once again presenting the Flat Rock Christmas Passport Program.

We are once again using the Passport Punch Cards system.

Program Information.

  • You will get a passport business card from any participating Flat Rock Businesses. Each card has 6 places in which to punch.
  • All Flat Rock participating businesses will have a card display near the cashier where you can take a card and receive a card punch.
  • Each Passport card is be coated so you can easily clean them.
  • The card will remain in your hand while the business punches it with their unique punch.
  • The program has started for 2022 and end on December 16, 2022.

Note; many stores already have their kits and may ask you if you would like to participate.

Flat Rock Passport Customer Rules and information.

  • Look for the Flat Rock Our Hometown clock decal at local businesses.
  • A full list of participating businesses is available on the Flat Rock Our Hometown Facebook page and on this site soon.
  • Visit local participating Flat Rock businesses and complete the punches on the passport card.
  • You must have punches from at least three (3) different businesses punches on each passport card (i.e. you can get up to three (3) stamps from one business, but the other three (3) must be different participating businesses.
  • Remember that 6 different punches will get you into the SPECIAL Grand Prize drawing for a basket filled with gifts from ALL participating businesses!
  • You get bonus stamps on Small Business Saturday weekend and Winterfest weekend.
  • Fill out your name, address and phone number on the passport card and drop in the box at City Hall for a chance to win your prize.
  • Passports Cards MUST be submitted to City Hall by December 16, 2022, by 12 NOON.
  • Customers can start another passport card for more chances to win. You can fill out more than one card but can only ONE prize per person.
  • The new passport cards can be picked up at any participating store or at city hall, the community center or the local library.
  • The drawings will be held on December 16, 2022 and awarded at the City Council meeting on December 19, 2022.

 

  • NOTE; You are NOT required to be present for the drawing, but we ask that you plan to attend the City Council meeting if you are a winner. The City Council meeting for the drawing will be at 7:30p.m. on December 19, 2022

First – $500, – Second $250, Third – $100 in Flat Rock Dollars.

The Grand Prize is a Basket with something from every participating business.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
