ATWATER STREET TACO IS THIS WEEKS RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK

March 30, 2021 By Joe Pagano

Atwater Street Taco – Flat Rock, Michigan

Our Restaurant of the Week this week is Atwater Street Tacos, one of the newest additions to Flat Rock that has quickly become a local favorite.

Atwater Street Tacos has been in business for a little over two years, having nothing but a positive impact on the city of Flat Rock. Monica and Gerardo, or “G,” started their street taco restaurant in an old driving school building along the Huron River in Flat Rock just outside HuRoc Park. After only a year in business, they made a decision to expand their business to include a Kayak and a bike rental business.

Then less than a year later, COVID-19 changed all of our lives in an instant and they had to completely reinvent their small taco business. “We are continuing to make changes in our business to keep our staff and customers safe” Monica shared, “We are very appreciative of all our customers and thankful of their continuing support.” Monica and G have always strived to support the Flat Rock community, such as sponsoring events like Riverfest, the Car Show, our city drive-in this past year, and much more. Today, Monica and G are adding another adventure to their positive trail and starting a new restaurant – soon to be called “Station 24” along the Telegraph corridor in Flat Rock. We thank Monica and G for everything they have done for Flat Rock and surrounding area. We hope you will stop by Atwater Street Tacos for your next “Taco Tuesday!”

BYOB THIS WEEKS RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK.

March 5, 2021 By Joe Pagano

BYOB — 26068 Huron River Drive, Flat Rock, MI 48134
This week, our Restaurant of the Week is Build Your Own Burrito, B.Y.O.B..
B.Y.O.B stands as one of our favorite family-owned businesses in Flat Rock. Opening their doors three years ago, B.Y.O.B is an easy choice for your burrito and Tex Mex needs. The team at B.Y.O.B has always felt connected to their hometown, often relying on the support of the entire Flat Rock community. For as much as they feel supported, they aim to send this appreciation back in every way they can. B.Y.O.B has supported our Flat Rock football team through sponsorships and donations, as well as supported Flat Rock High School homecoming events and other festivals. The support of Flat Rock Schools is how B.Y.O.B aims to make their mark on the community.
With the many changes that have come with the coronavirus pandemic, B.Y.O.B has relied completely on curbside service. This loss of income has heavily impacted the way in which they run their business, forever changing the normalcy of in-person dining. The team at B.Y.O.B hope you might choose to visit them for you next curbside pickup!

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
