Downtown Flat Rock Presents the 9th Annual Chalk The Walk at HuRoc Park Sat. June 3rd

The 9th annual “Chalk The Walk” at HuRoc Park takes place on Saturday June 3rd at from 11AM to 1PM. Chalk The Walk is presented FREE to the public. This annual event is a Family Fun Event where artist of all ages can stop by HuRoc Park off of Arsenal Road in Downtown Flat Rock and show off their skills. This Ninth Annual Event and is presented by Flat Rock Our Hometown and the Flat Rock Downtown Development Authority. Chalk the Walk is sponsored by Michelle Davis Group at RE/MAX Masters, Flat Rock who provides the chalk to artist of all ages, and Biggby Coffee of Flat Rock who will provide drinks for the young ones.

We thank both of these local businesses for their support.

Artist of all ages are welcome to draw on the walkway around HuRoc Park.

  • Chalk will be provided in various colors to the First 100 Artists.

  • An adult must be present to chaperone any artiest under 13 years old.

  • Families, School and Church Groups are all WELLCOME!

  • The important thing is to HAVE FUN

2023 Flat Rock Businesses Expo-May 18th at the Stone Creek Hall

Flat Rock DDA and Flat Rock Our Hometown are Promoting Dine\Shop Local bringing local businesses together in a public expo at the Stone Creek Banquet Hall in the Flat Rock Community center at 1 Maguire Ave in Flat Rock Michigan.

The Business Expo will showcase local business and products.  The cost to your business is minimal.  You will get table space at the forum to show your product(s), hand out samples, hand out coupons and conduct drawings etc.

The Expo is FREE and open to the public from Noon to 3 pm May 18th.  For businesses, there will be a set up time prior to start time.  Click on the forms below for additional information about either food or product business.

Businesses will have until May 1st to have the information submitted.

For the public there will be FREE food samples along with business raffles and drawings and giveaways from local businesses and the DDA. You will also have an opportunity to meet local city and other officials.

The Forum will be FREE for the public.

2023 Easter Egg Hunt April 1st at Community Park

The 2023 Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Community Park on Gibraltar Road in Flat Rock.  It is presented by Flat Rock Our Hometown and Flat Rock Parks and Recreation Department. This year’s event will run from Noon to 2:30 p.m.

The Easter Egg Hunt and Marshmallow drop is FREE and open to the public with no registration is required.

Here are the times and age groups:

12:00 arrival time

12:15 marshmallow drop 6-9 Years Old

12:45 egg hunt 0-3 Years Old

1:15 egg hunt 4-5 Years Old

1:45 marshmallow drop 10 Years and older

2:30 end time

There will be special Golden Eggs that will have special prizes from area businesses.

The Easter Bunny and the goodie bags will be in the warming building.   Parents should bring their own cameras.

Parking will be available at Flat Rock High School or Flat Rock Public Library. The city hall parking lot will be closed so the Flat Rock Fire Department can display their truck.

Restrooms will be available at the city’s warming building.

This event is presented by City of Flat Rock Community Center and Flat Rock Out Hometown.

Bobby Murray Concert in the Park Aug. 18th at Huroc Park

Flat Rock Our Hometown presents its last Concert in The Park for this season.  On Thursday August 18th Bobby Murray will be playing at the parks Gazebo area.

Bobby Murray is an American electric blues guitarist, songwriter and record producer who has played in Etta James’ backing band for twenty-three years, performed on three Grammy Award winning recordings with James and B.B. King and released four solo albums. In 2011, the Detroit Blues Society granted Murray their Lifetime Achievement Award. Murray currently leads his own band in Metro Detroit and has won several Detroit Music Awards. His latest solo recording, I’m Sticking With You, was released in 2013.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
