Cruzin’ Flat Rock COVID 2020 Edition Sept. 12th

August 23, 2020 By Joe Pagano

The “COVID 2020 Edition” of the Cruzin’ Flat Rock and Truck Show is ON and will take place on Saturday September 12, 2020.

Because of the COVID outbreak there are some changes for this year’s show.  Registration fee is FREE because there will only be ONE trophy.  The show runs from 10 AM to 2 PM with registration starting at 9 AM.  The entrance to the show will still be at Huron River and Arsenal.  There will not be a festival this year so we are bringing in a couple of festival style food trucks where you can purchase lunch or you can go to a few of the local restaurants within walking distance of the show.

We ask that everyone practice social; distancing for the safety of participants and for our friends and families visiting along with the spectators.

New this year, because there isn’t a festival tied to the show, there will be a live performance at 11 AM along with a local DJ, “Stay Cold Entertainment” during the Cruzin’ Flat Rock Show.  As in last year’s shown there will also be Door prizes, when filling out the entry form along with a 50/50 drawing.  The money will go for the dog shelter to help purchase food and cat litter.

The “COVID Edition” Entry includes a free T-Shirt for former trophy winners when displaying their trophies.  Cruzin’ Flat Rock T-Shirts will be available for only $5 for others who want purchase one.

Click Here  for a printable version of the registration form.  You can also get the forms at many local Flat Rock stores or restaurants.

Adkins Insurance is January 2019 Business of the Month

January 2, 2019 By Joe Pagano

Adkins Insurance at 26263 Gibraltar Rd, Flat Rock, MI

Doug Adkins started Adkins insurance in November of 1990. Just on the edge of the city limit, Doug began his small insurance business after working for some time at MET insurance. His drive to create his own mark lead Doug to opening his insurance agency with the intention of offering many options with many other companies. In offering more, Doug Adkins has created a unique insurance agency for the people of Flat Rock as we know it today. In 2011, Doug made the official move to Flat Rock by opening the new Adkins Insurance at the old Flat Rock theater. His presence within the Flat Rock community is visible in devoted involvement to the Flat Rock train depot and a member of Flat Rock Our Hometown Design Committee. Speaking further to his character, you’ll often see Doug plowing the sidewalks for neighboring businesses.

Doug and the Adkins Insurance Company also are a sponsor of the spring Cruzin’ Flat Rock Car Show.

Kristi is the face you will see walking into Adkins Insurance today. Kristi has been working with Doug since 2013, originally as a secretary. She then decided she would also obtain her insurance agent license in 2014, and later continued her education to obtain her Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) designation in 2018. Kristi also obtained a business degree from Henry Ford College in 2016. Kristi provides outstanding customer service, only adding to the profoundly helpful and personal nature of this Flat Rock business. This very nature is truly what defines Adkins Insurance. In working with Doug and Kristi, Adkins provides policies that feel as though they work for you and your budget. In acknowledging the importance of strong and successful small businesses in Flat Rock, it is important to consider the way Doug Adkins brings a personal feel to something so impersonal as insurance policy.

Adkins Insurance is located in the former Flat Roc Theater.

Adkins Insurance offers a wide variety of insurance;

  • Home
  • Auto
  • Commercial
  • Health, plus Medicare plans along with advantage plans
  • Bonds
  • Annuity’s
  • Life insurance

Adkins insurance is located at 26263 Gibraltar Rd #800, Flat Rock, MI 48134

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
