Flat Rock Riverfest Parking

September 9, 2012 By Downtown Flat Rock

2012 Riverfest Monster Truck

Riverfest 2012 brings some changes to parking.  There are NO changes to the two main lots at the Flat Rock Plaza (Formally the K-Mart Plaza) at 27313 Telegraph, Flat Rock, Mi 48134 or the Flat Rock Community High School lot at 25600 Seneca Flat Rock, Mi 48134, behind City Hall.  The shuttles will operate both Saturday and Sunday.  On Saturday September 15th, the shuttles will run from 11:00 AM-to-12:00 Midnight and on Sunday September 16th they will run from 10:00 AM-to-9:30 PM.

New to this year’s Riverfest is onsite parking for Handicap persons with a state permit or plate.  NOTE: Some of the buses also have Handicap Capability.  Also new this year is the Farmers Market and parking for those who shop at Marketplace.  The third change this year is local paid parking at Huroc Park Area.  You will be able to park on Arsenal for $5.00 a car.  Please follow the signs and volunteers directions.  The money will help defer cost of the Riverfest activates.

The Riverfest committee hopes these changes will help the flow of traffic and make the Riverfest experience a better one you and your family.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
