Calder Dairy and Farm NOW open in Flat Rock

The NEW Calder Dairy and Farm store in Flat Rock is now open. They carry all Calder Dairy products and lots of delicious Michigan products including breads, honey, pickles, chips and more.
The new store is located at 28190 Telegraph Road, Flat Rock MI 48134 just south of the railroad bridge on the west side of the road.

The store will have a Grand Opening in the spring but wanted to be open prior to the Christmas holiday season for all your dairy needs.

For home delivery call them at 313 381 8858. You can also contact them at the farm at 734 654 2622 or the new Flat Rock Store at 734 984 6985

Their Flat Rock business hours are 10 am to 7 pm daily.

Farmers Market Returns to HuRoc Park

Its produce season and what is more exciting than the prospect of fresh local produce provided by your nearby farmers’ market? This season, don’t forget to buy your produce and goods at The Flat Rock Farmers’ Market.

Starting on Saturday, August 2nd, you can find The Flat Rock Farmers’ Market located on the corner of Gibraltar Road and Arsenal Road in the parking lot across from Huroc Park every Saturday through October 25th. The market will operate from 11AM to 4PM

 

This season, all sorts of wonderful things will be offered at the market! Things like Vegetables and Fruit from Marks Greenhouse, Milan¾Bread from Vitale Brothers Bakery, Flat Rock¾ and Tea from Teatroiter, Dearborn, will be sold and who better to buy them from than your own community members?

The Flat Rock Marketplace Thanks Local Businesses

The Flat Rock Marketplace would like to thank local businesses for their support this season.  Monica Landry, Market Manager said she was supported with needed items and hours of support by many local businesses.  She would like to thank the following businesses and organizations for their help;  Sunny Laundry, Mr. Beans, Creative Design Landscaping, Flat Rock DDA, Downriver Support Local Organization, Jump-A-Bunch-N-More, Mark’s Greenhouse,  Howsa Bounta Pizza, Masserant’s Feed & Grain and Frost & Remer Insurance.   These businesses and organizations went over and beyond to help the Marketplace in its successful 2012 season.  Monica also reminds us that there are still two more weeks in this market season. 

Also, on the last Saturday of the market, local businesses including Mr. Beans and Strands will be sponsoring activates at the market, Huroc Park and the Walk able Downtown area Saturday October 27, 2012.  More details to come.  Downtownflatrock.com will have all the details later this week.

2012 Flat Rock Riverfest – A Great Success Thanks To You

The Flat Rock Riverfest Committee says “Thanks” to everyone who attended this years event.    The committee would also like to thank all of its sponsors including The Ford Motor Company, Crest Ford, The Flat Rock DDA, The Flat Rock Community Foundation, Flat Rock Metal, Metro Shores Credit Union, Sleep Inn, DoSan’s and Compass Self Storage.  The Committee would also like to “Thank” the Flat Rock Community Schools, The Flat Rock Community Center, and all of those City of Flat Rock Department s who volunteered their time.

Once again this year’s Music Lineup was a “Hit” This year’s attendance  was our best ever, said Mayor Jonathan Dropiewski .  As I walked around everyone was singing and dancing to the music of “50 Amp Fuse”  Dropiewski  said he is looking forward to next year’s schedule that will be even bigger and better than this year’s.  Gary Borden, the Riverfest Chairman and City Councilmen, thanks the   Riverfest Committee for all of its hard work and thanked the citizens for attending again this year.  Councilmen Borden said “The Committee will meet in a few weeks close out this event and start setting up for next year.  Councilmen and Committee member Jim Martin commented that this year’s schedule was more challenging because of the two day schedule but the results were worth it.

Comments from attendees were “We love this year’s entertainment schedule especially Bo Bice and 50 Amp Fuse”.  “We danced to all the performers last night and tonight”’ The committee would also like to thank all of the vendors, along with Daniel Harrison $2, Jo Caine, Larry Lee & Back in the day, A Tribute to Motown w/ Serieux, Thornetta Davis and all of the musicians for doing a great job.  The committee would to also thank the organizers of the Farmer’s Market and market vendors, the Classic Car Show organizers, the folks who supported the wrestling performances and this year’s Monster Truck operators.  The monster truck was a great hit again this year.

We are already looking forward to next year.

With the 2012 Riverfest calibration behind us we want to remind you that the Flat Rock Farmer’s Market will be operating every Saturday from 9 AM to 3 PM until October 27, 2012.  Pete and Jan’s Tree Farm and Produce has fresh handpicked berries along with pumpkins, corn stalks and small bales of hay available for your fall home decorations.  Marks’ Farm is coming into the fall harvest with even more variety’s of farm fresh, just picked, vegetables of all kinds and DTL Herbs has dried herbs and mixes for everyday cooking.  You can also get FARM FRESH EGGS every Saturday at the Flat Rock Farmer’s Market.

The Flat Rock Marketplace is across from Huroc Park off of Huron River and Arsenal Roads.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
