Chalk-The-Walk at HuRoc Park
Attention Artist of All ages
On Saturday June 21st 2014 the Flat Rock Downtown Development Authority and Flat Rock-Michigan Main Street Committee invites you to “Chalk the Walk” at HuRoc Park. The first 100 artist will get FREE Chalk donated by Michelle Davis of ReMax Realtor on Telegraph Road. This is a Family Event and for Artist of All Ages. Chalk the Walk runs 2 hours from 11 AM to 1 PM. We will have cool-aid and water available. Come check out the Art Work at the Park.

Memorial Day Parade in Flat Rock To Honor the Fallen
This years Memorial Parade starts at the edge of the Business district and moves down Gibraltar through the Civic Center District to City Hall where the War Memorial is located. This years speaker is President of the Blue Star Mothers of Michigan, Lisa Gwilt. She talked about teaching young folks to look at the memorials or grave sites of fallen solders not as just a name on a wall but that there is a real hero behind those name. Members from the American Legion and VFW along with Ladies Auxiliary, Blue star moms and Boy Scouts laid wreaths at the base of the memorial. Mayor Jonathan Dropiewski also spoke and thanked all of the current solders along with the veterans and families of fallen solders for helping making Flat Rock the city it is because of their sacrifices.
We must remember that this is a day to honor all those who gave their lives to keep us free.

Paddle & Pedal
On Saturday June 7th at Huroc Park in Flat Rock the Downriver Linked Greenway will host a new event called “Paddle & Pedal” from 10am – 4pm. This event will include a group bike ride to Oakwood Metro Park, kayak rentals, bike shops/groups, and trike trials.
Paddle & Pedal starts at HuRoc Park beginning at 10 AM. HuRoc Park activities include FREE bike checks, Free Trike Trials and food vendors. You can start your walk or ride to Oakwood where the Nature Center will be open and you can rent a Kayak for 30 minutes for $10. You have never been in a Kayak, don’t let that stop you; there will be folks on site that can get you started. Come and enjoy the day with your family and friends and be with nature. This event is in cooperation with the City of Flat Rock, the Flat Rock DDA, Downriver Linked Greenways, RKC of Wyandotte, Huron River Watershed Council, and Metroparks.
Tim Horton’s Children’s Foundation helps send kids to camp
Tim Horton’s Children’s Foundation, including the Flat Rock store participates annually, on the first Wednesday in June, to donate to their Children’s Foundation.
Store coordinator Christene said This being our first year we would like to make it a huge success in Flat Rock. Our Children’s Foundation day will be June 4th. Some of the activities we will include a silent auction, games, and if course coffee sales.
The money raised is used to send kids from inner cities to camp for 10 days. Last year the foundation raised over $11 million dollars and sent over 17,000 kids to one of the 6 camps in Canada and the U.S.
