The Flat Rock Hardware has been at the 26329E Huron River Dr, Flat Rock, MI 48134 site since 1953. The original name on the store was Herman’s Hardware. Cash Herman, the original owner had three other sites in addition to the Flat Rock Site. In 1963, CJ Williams and Tom Langton purchased the Flat Rock site and called it Flat Rock Hardware. Back then they also sold appliances along with the hardware items and home goods.
Currently Dave, Tom’s son and Greg, Tom’s grandson, operate the Do-It-Center in Flat Rock. Dave began working at the store in 1971 after he got out of the service. Dave’s son Greg started at the store in 1991 while still in high school. At this time, Greg runs most of the operations and Dave comes in a few days a week plus when Greg is on vacation.
Dave served as a member of the Flat Rock Downtown Development Authority for over 25 years and Chairman for over half of his term. He was also was excited over the Flat Rock Our Hometown – “Christmas Passbook” Program last year that ran in November and December of 2015. Dave commented on how it brought folks in from Monroe to Wyandotte. He said he would like to see the program again in 2016.
Dave is still surprised that people come in and say, “I never knew this hardware store was here”.
The Do-It-Center has all sorts of household and yard goods. So if you need anything from a bolt to do a repair job around the house, some seed to patch the brown spot on your lawn to a can of paint to spruce the place up, you can find all of that and more at the Local Flat Rock DO It Center.
