Metro Shores Credit Union Breaks Ground for a New Office Building
On Wednesday afternoon August 24, 2011, the groundbreaking ceremony took place on first new address on the new section of Vreeland Road in Flat Rock. Metro Shores representative along with city, county, state and federal government officials were watching as Mayor Jonathan Dropiewski and CEO of Metro Shores Donna Follbaum threw the first shovel of dirt representing the start of new credit union build. Metro Shores Credit Union, a Trenton based company, has been in Flat Rock on Telegraph Road in the CVS Plaza for over 11 years. Donna Follbaum said she was committed to stay in Flat Rock so she started to look for property to build. She continued by saying that she and Metro Shores received great support from the Mayor and Economic Director George Mans. Mayor Dropiewski was happy to support her effort to stay in Flat Rock. The Mayor also praised the Downtown Development Authority and Planning Commission for their quick call to action with a short deadline. Both the Mayor and Donna talked about Flat Rock as a business friendly town.
The New Flat Rock Farmer’s Market
The Farmers Market is in its third week at the new location across from Huroc Park. This weeks new vendor addition is the Flat Rock Eastern Star Book Sales. Suzette Eppley was on site selling “Family Traditions” Recipes. Eastern Star is a Non-Profit Organization and the profits from the sales will go to supporting scholarships, holiday meals and camp for children with learning disabilities among others.
The Flat Rock Market is a “Made In Michigan” market. The market customers like the idea of Michigan and locally grown. The market will remain across from Huroc Park through Mid-October and will continue to be open every Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Shirley Moore from Wayne-Metropolitan Community Action Agency (Wayne-Metro) has been excited about the number of customers. We have had over 200 for each week since we have moved here.
The Flat Rock DDA is the sponsor of Farmer’s Market. This past weekend August 20th included; Michigan Blueberries, fresh Michigan vegetables, Made in Michigan cookies, Flat Rock Eastern Star and fresh and locally made pasta. This past weekend we did not have added entertainment but expect to bring it back next weekend. We are also looking for to add a coffee vendor next week and the Michigan Popcorn booth will return.
So stop by the park every Saturday between 10 AM and 4 PM and pick up some fresh picked, from the farm, fruits and vegetables, relax and listen to entertainment. Huroc Park is great place to spend a day with friends and family walking on the bike path, fishing or a good old fashion picnic. Please come back to the downtownflatrock.com web site for more information on the new vendors next weekend.
