Michigan Activity Pass

May 31, 2013 By Downtown Flat Rock

MAPNeed to beat the heat this summer? Spend those hot summer days learning in a cool museum! The Flat Rock Library, along with the Library Network and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, are proud to present the “Michigan Activity Pass.”

The pass will provide complimentary or reduced cost access to museums and art organizations all over Michigan. From May 24, 2013 thru May 23, 2014, library card holders can print a pass from home or from the library from the Michigan Activity Pass website.

Some museums and art organizations offer complimentary access, while others may offer reduced price admission. Some organizations are offering discounts in their gift shop or exclusive offers just for pass holders.

To find the museums and art organizations participating in your area, enter your zip code into the search box. Going away and looking for something to do across state? Enter that zip code instead. It doesn’t matter what city you are from, as long as you have a valid library card.

Please be aware that the passes expire within a week of printing. Passes are only for one-time use and cannot be transferred. You must forfeit the pass on entry to the museum.

So pick a date, print out a pass, and go have fun!

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
