Don’t Forget To Vote on November 4th
With October coming to an end, we just want to remind you that YOUR VOTE Counts. There are many seats In the Federal and State Governments on the ballot. In Flat Rock there are also School Board Seats up this year along with a school millage. There are a lot of places to review each position to make an informed choice.
You can get a sample ballot at the Flat Rock City Hall Clerks office.

Register to vote in the upcoming election
Don’t forget to register to vote for the upcoming election this fall, if you are currently unregistered. To vote in the 2013 election, you must register to vote by October 7th. The general election will be held on November 5th.
There are two ways to register to vote: by mail and by person.
You may register to vote if:
- You are a United States Citizen
- You are 18 years of age by Election Day
- You are a resident of the City of Flat Rock for at least 30 days prior to the Election
You must re-register your vote if:
- You moved to Flat Rock after the last election
- You moved within Flat Rock after the last election
According to Michigan law, the same address on your driver’s license must be used on your voter registration.
When you register in person, all you have to do is hand over your application to the city clerk. If you have never registered to vote in Michigan and chose to mail in your application, you must give identification. Approved identification includes:
- Entering your driver’s license number on the form
- A photocopy of your driver’s license
- A photocopy of a paycheck stub, utility bill, bank document or government document that lists both your name and address
Make sure that you go to the correct precinct to vote.

Metro Shores Credit Union Breaks Ground for a New Office Building
On Wednesday afternoon August 24, 2011, the groundbreaking ceremony took place on first new address on the new section of Vreeland Road in Flat Rock. Metro Shores representative along with city, county, state and federal government officials were watching as Mayor Jonathan Dropiewski and CEO of Metro Shores Donna Follbaum threw the first shovel of dirt representing the start of new credit union build. Metro Shores Credit Union, a Trenton based company, has been in Flat Rock on Telegraph Road in the CVS Plaza for over 11 years. Donna Follbaum said she was committed to stay in Flat Rock so she started to look for property to build. She continued by saying that she and Metro Shores received great support from the Mayor and Economic Director George Mans. Mayor Dropiewski was happy to support her effort to stay in Flat Rock. The Mayor also praised the Downtown Development Authority and Planning Commission for their quick call to action with a short deadline. Both the Mayor and Donna talked about Flat Rock as a business friendly town.
