Wimpy Burgers is March 2019 Business of the Month

March 6, 2019 By Joe Pagano

Wimpy Burger of Flat Rock Michigan

Steve the owner of Wimpy Burger has a lot of nostalgia with the iconic Flat Rock hamburger restaurant. The former M&M’s was a common stop for Steve and his parents. He dad worked at the Ford plant, their drive from Detroit to Flat Rock usually consisted of a stop at M&M’s for some sliders. Steve said when he heard the building was up for sale he jumped at the opportunity to open it back up to it former M&M glory. We think Steve hit it out the park.

Wimpy opened in March of 2015 with great success. The famous slider burger is Wimpy Burgers’ biggest seller. The locals love the slider. Steve said he has nothing but support from the community. Steve has always been an entrepreneur, he’s experienced in customer service. He has a good crew to help him. Steve’s daughter, Tiffany, has worked side by side with her dad from the beginning. Steve’s girlfriend, Kim, is always a familiar face, she’s behind the counter serving the customers. Steve has shown his dedication to Flat Rock and Flat Rock has noticed. Wimpy Burger is serving up some great food.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
