Thanks to help from Flat Rock’s Downtown Development Authority and DTE Energy, the Oasis Fueling Station at 26102 Telegraph in Flat Rock has brightened up their night.  Manager Ibrahim Ashaif said that not only is the lighting better with the new LED lighting system, but there is a $8-900 energy cost per month at the station.  The Oasis installed 36 90 watt canopy fixtures, 2 90 watt pole lamps, 3 120 watt pole lamps, 7 building mounted wall packs and one large 240 watt pole top lamp.

Ibrahim continued to say that the energy rate drop is about a 45% savings to his electric bill was a good surprise.  Ibrahim stated that the lamps come with a 5 year warranty, which means he doesn’t have to change bulbs every 6 months to a year which was an additional expense.  With the support from the DDA, he was able to complete the job all at once instead of doing it in stages. Visit the Oasis Fueling Station to see a surge of positive energy lighting up this local Flat Rock business!

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
