Flat Rock Celebrates Small Business Saturday Nov. 30, 2019

November 29, 2019 By Joe Pagano

Shop Flat Rock on Small Business Saturday.   Small business Saturday is this Saturday November 30, 2019. First observed on November 27, 2010, it is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively. By contrast, Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.

Flat Rock – Our Hometown and the Flat Rock Downtown Development Authority encourage everyone to Shop in Flat Rock where we have plenty of businesses where you can get something special for that loved one or special friend. There are plenty of Beauty Shops and specialties shops like Blue Heron Trading Company,  Hooked On A Bean or get dad that special tool at the Flat Rock Do-It Center. For that quick meal you can go to Build Your Own Burritos or maybe you want to spruce up you dinner table with flowers at Darlene’s Flower Shop.

And don’t forget to get a stamp during Small Business Saturday on your Christmas Passport Book. Check out our Business directory for all your holiday needs on Small Business Saturday or any Saturday in Flat Rock.

Support your Local Businesses on Small Business Saturday November 30th.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
