UPDATE: The Polka Dot Cottage no longer does business at this location.

Open less than a year; the Polka Dot Cottage is a small but unique shop just for you. The store located at 26314 E. Huron River Dr., Flat Rock, MI and has one of a kind items for any room in your house. Lisa Lee-Langley, the shop owner, finds antique items then redesigns and customizes them for that one of a kind look.

Lisa calls her shop, “unique, but affordable”. Even though this shop is new to Flat Rock, Lisa has been doing this work for many years. Her dream was to start a small shop in Flat Rock. Lisa still goes to shows throughout the Midwest to sell her items but is always looking affordable pieces to re-design and sell. If you see a piece that you like, don’t blink, once it’s sold you may not find another like it.

The Polka Dot Cottage also has a wide range of other unique gifts, including:

  • “Custom Spirit Gear” for all the local schools
  • Gift cards for the hard to shop for folks

Are you a crafter too? Lisa also conducts monthly “How To” classes at her shop. These classes can help you meet other crafty folks like yourself, learn a new creative skill, and the affordable cost simply covers the supplies and a small fee.

Polka Dot Cottage Business Hours are:

  • Wednesday-Thursday: Noon to 6 P.M.
  • Friday: Noon-to 5 P.M.
  • Saturday: 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
