Once again this year’s Music Lineup was a “Hit” This year’s attendance  was our best ever, said Mayor Jonathan Dropiewski .  As I walked around everyone was singing and dancing to the music of “50 Amp Fuse”  Dropiewski  said he is looking forward to next year’s schedule that will be even bigger and better than this year’s.  Gary Borden, the Riverfest Chairman and City Councilmen, thanks the   Riverfest Committee for all of its hard work and thanked the citizens for attending again this year.  Councilmen Borden said “The Committee will meet in a few weeks close out this event and start setting up for next year.  Councilmen and Committee member Jim Martin commented that this year’s schedule was more challenging because of the two day schedule but the results were worth it.

Comments from attendees were “We love this year’s entertainment schedule especially Bo Bice and 50 Amp Fuse”.  “We danced to all the performers last night and tonight”’ The committee would also like to thank all of the vendors, along with Daniel Harrison $2, Jo Caine, Larry Lee & Back in the day, A Tribute to Motown w/ Serieux, Thornetta Davis and all of the musicians for doing a great job.  The committee would to also thank the organizers of the Farmer’s Market and market vendors, the Classic Car Show organizers, the folks who supported the wrestling performances and this year’s Monster Truck operators.  The monster truck was a great hit again this year.

We are already looking forward to next year.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
