Sherry’s Academy of Dance located at 27369 opened for business with a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting in October. Sherry’s strives to produce dancers that possess a strong, clean, classical technique with great emphasis on artistry, musicality, coordination, and the joy of dance and gymnastics.  Owner Sherry Blaha is the artistic director of Sherry’s Academy of Dance. Mrs. Blaha’s is in her 35th year of operating and teaching at the Academy. In her 35 years, Sherry has trained many professional dancers and is proud that many of her students have gone on to be excellent teachers themselves, many of which are currently teaching at the studio.  Sherry’s Academy of Dance is a proud leader in the dance industry. Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn or a seasoned dancer we have the perfect program for you. WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
