and Doug Eggert have been in business for over 11 years when they decided to open up their store at 27419 Telegraph in the Flat Rock Plaza.  They started their business from their home for a couple of years and expanded to a store front just the other side of the Huron River in Berlin Township.  In the spring of 2011, they moved to Flat Rock for more public exposure.

Southern Scentsations sells Candle Making Supplies through the internet along with their store.   Their web site is www.greatcandle.com . “We sell everything you need to make your very own candles!” said Beth.  Beth continued by saying “We are a craft store for making Candles, Soaps, Lotions and Sprays.”  They have soy wax, cotton wicks, jars, over 160 high quality fragrances, melt and pour soaps, lotion and spray bases.

Southern Scentsations also offers candle making classes at the store and will soon start offering soap and pillar making classes.  You can call Beth to register or for the times and dates of the classes.  The Flat Rock Store number is 734-782-2288.  The classes have a minimum cost that is given back as store credit.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
