Flat Rock RiverfestWith less that a week to go the Riverfest relieves the 2011 Schedule of events;

September 17, 2011

9 AM to 9 PM at Huroc Park

Music Performance by Alexander Zonjic and Friends.

Please, No outside food or beverages are allowed at the event.

For safety reasons, no bicycles, scooters, rollerblades and skateboards are allowed in or around the Riverfest.  Pets are not allowed, although service animals are.

 

Directions and Parking

Parking at Free at Flat Rock Plaza and
Flat Rock High School

Huroc Park is on the corner of Huron River and Arsenal Roads in
the city of Flat Rock.

From the Detroit or Downriver, take I-75 to Exit 34A, “To
Telegraph Road”. Dix/Toledo

Highway will end at Telegraph. Turn south on Telegraph, in about 3 miles, turn
into the Flat Rock Plaza (Formally K-Mart) parking lot. A shuttle will take you
to the park.

From Monroe County, take I-75 to I-275; use Exit 2, Telegraph Road
north to the Flat Rock City Limits. Parking is at the Flat Rock Plaza.

NOTE; Due to some road work on Telegraph near the Plaza parking
area the Monroe Area an Alternate Route would be I-75 north to the Gibraltar
Road Exit, turn west on Gibraltar to the Flat Rock High School Parking Lot. The
shuttle service will take you to the park.

From the east, take Gibraltar to the Flat Rock High School Parking
Lot. A shuttle will take you and your family to the park.

Shuttle Bus Service runs
from 9 AM to 10 PM and is FREE.

 

NOTICE: Due to needed set up and tear down time Huroc Park will be closed to the
public from noon Friday until the start of the festival for setup of the event,
and it will be closed after the festival ends until 7 a.m. Sunday for the
takedown.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
