Kidfest 2013

FRCCGet in on the fun, Saturday, June 8th! Join us from 11am-3pm at the Community Park for Kidfest, presented by the Community Center.

Activities include:

Registration table for FRCC classes and programs

Fire Department Obstacle Course

Visit the Historical Museum

Fire Department Demo

Safety Town

Visit the Flat Rock Library

Free British Soccer Clinic

Family Dance Party with Guy Louis (12pm-1pm)

For a dollar each, kids can enjoy:

Face Painting (11am-3pm)

Balloon Twisting (12:30pm-2:30pm)

Inflatables (11am-3pm)

Trackless Train (12:30pm-2:30pm)

The warming building will be open all day serving concessions. Fill up on pizza, hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy and ice cream.

While there, stop by the FRCC Booth. There you can preregister for all of their summer youth programs. Sign up soon because programs fill up fast.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
