Helping Hand – Heating System Tips from Leon’s

Are you fighting HIGH heating bills?  What can you do about it?  Well we called upon Leon Simeck  of Leon’s Heating and AC located at 26209 E. Huron River Road.  Leon has been in business since 1969 and at his East Huron River Road location since 1973.

His building is a historic building, built about 1891.  The original occupant of this building was Motez Printers.

Now for the promised tips,

  1. Have your professional check your system annually for both heating and cooling including your heat exchanger, AC coils, thermostat operations, humidifier etc.
  2. Installing a programmable thermostat that can save you money by programming your temperature down in the winter or up in the summer when you are not at home or sleeping.
  3. Change your filters (if not electronic air cleaner) every 90 days.  A blocked filter will slow down fan movement of your heated or cooled air to the entire house.
  4. Verify all your windows and door seals are in good condition.  Improperly sealed doors and windows will allow heated or cooled air to escape costing you more money.  On older single pane windows, you can also use a plastic over the window sealer.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
