Cruzin’ HuRoc Park Car Show, Swap Meet and Music Weekend Aug. 23rd & 24th

The Flat Rock Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and Flat Rock Community Foundation are presenting a NEW Free Family Event at HuRoc Park in Flat Rock.  The event is scheduled for Saturday August 23rd from 8AM to 9 PM and Sunday August 24th from 8AM to 5 PM with Trophies and Prizes for the best cars and trucks at the show.  We expect from 300 to 500 cars and trucks to participate said Fred Giovannoni one of the organizers.  The cars and trucks will range from Antiques, Historic and Modern cars, street rods and trucks.  This show is a product of the “Wheels and Deals” show we use to do on Vreeland, said Mayor Dropiewski.  He was excited to see the HuRoc Park get more use.  It is a great place to bring a family on any weekend.

Along with A GREAT CAR SHOW the park will be filled with LIVE MUSIC from old time rock and roll to 50’s and 60’s music.  Top billing goes to Frijid Pink a national band that is in the Michigan Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.  Also playing on stage is Hines Drive Band formally Salem-Witchcraft along with local bands like “Steelin’ Time” and The Penny Thieves wrap up the Saturday lineup.  On Sunday there will be two bands starting at Noon, Bob and Carl with ‘50’s and 60’s music and closing on Sunday is Teen Angels.

NOTICE TO ALL PARTICIPANTS–The 2014 Show Winner will be featured in the 2015 promotional material.

If you like Car Swap Meets, HuRoc Park is again the place to be on August 23rd and 24th.  There will also be FOOD and Beer along with local Michigan vendors and local Flat Rock businesses.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
