With October coming to an end, we just want to remind you that YOUR VOTE Counts. There are many seats In the Federal and State Governments on the ballot. In Flat Rock there are also School Board Seats up this year along with a school millage. There are a lot of places to review each position to make an informed choice.

You can get a sample ballot at the Flat Rock City Hall Clerks office.

2014 Riverfest – Friday Sept. 19, Sat. Sept 20 & Sun. Sept. 21st

Riverfest 2014 will end with a BANG Friday night with Fireworks. Friday night entertainment includes some favorites from past years like Daniel Harris and Mega 80’s. Saturday’s Headliner is Mitch Ryder. Sunday’s lineup includes War Machine. The entire music lineup is listed below the activities. The weekend is also filled with lot of other family fun activities including;

Cruzin’ HuRoc Park Car Show Winners Announced

Tom Willkins 1971 Cougar XR7 was the “Best of Show” Winner for the 2014 Cruzin’ Show. Other winners were, for Truck’s-Don and Dorothy Raupp’s -1953 Ford F-150. In the 1959 and older category, Larry & Rhonda Olson’s 1941 Willies took first place. In the 1960 and newer, Jorge Arraondo’s 1970 Chevy 442 walked away the winner. There were two outer categories, People’s Choice and Mayors Choice. In the Peoples choice category, David Olson took it with a 1965 Mustang. In the Mayor’s Choice, Perry Comier’s 1967 Le Mans was the winner.
The Cruzin’ Committee would like to thank all the participants, fans and sponsors for a successful 2014 event. We are looking forward to next years Cruzin’ 2015 and seeing even more cars and fans of cars and music.

Car Show at HuRoc Park This Weekend

Cruzin’ HuRoc Park Car Show and Swap Meet sponsored by Carl Crook Agency is scheduled for Saturday August 23rd and Sunday August 2th at HuRoc Park at Huron River and Arsenal Roads. The show includes car clubs from the surrounding area including the Wanders, MOCSEM Mustang group and others. You will also see a NEW 2015 Mustang On Site right from the Flat Rock Assembly Plant.

The show also includes LIVE music starting at Noon on both days. See the line up below. The show starts at 8 AM on both days with hundreds of dollars in prize money, and Trophies. The Awards Show starting at 5 PM on Sunday.

Huroc Park will be the best place to be this weekend beautiful warm weekend in August for the best CARS and Music in Southeastern Michigan.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
