Nightmarish Road Improvement Project

When will it be over? Get comfortable, it’s going to be a while. City officials are concerned about the impact this is having on local Flat Rock businesses.

The Main Trouble Spots

You just want to get where you’re going, the lights are extra long and stuck on red for what seems like forever, and rush hour is a royal pain for commuters. Lanes are down to one each direction which makes it difficult to time the lights for passengers turning left or right. That means the lights stay red longer to compensate for the extra amount of vehicles.

But members of the City of Flat Rock are remaining optimistic, and with the warmer weather just around the corner now is not the time to starting loosing cool over the impact this construction is having on everyone.

Businesses Are Still Open

City council members and business owners are encouraging drivers, residents and those passing through to check out many nearby businesses in Flat Rock.

Or, better yet, grab dinner from a neighborhood favorite like Kate’s Kitchen – they’re famous for their pies and are always hot and fresh. You might be a while getting up the road to Kroger to pick up tonight’s meal.

Mayor Jonathan Dropiewski asked residents to “please patronize the businesses” that are being financially impacted by the construction.

The fire started from the center of the building and it appears to have originated somewhere within the sanctuary. The roof didn’t explode but collapsed, and there was no kitchen so the chances of an electrical mishap is very small.

The fire chief of Flat Rock was unable to confirm what caused the fire.

“It caught on fire somehow,” says member of New Hope Lutheran Les Gibson. He was called by the Wyandotte security company because the alarm went off and the police needed in. There’s a small fire in the vestibule says Les Gibson, a long standing member since the beginning.

No likelihood of an oven fire because the church didn’t have a kitchen. It was a caving in fire that burned from the inside and burned out the support structures.
