The Blue Heron Trading Company opened September 15th after a Ribbon Cutting Celebration in front of the New Business at 26217 E. Huron River Drive in Flat Rock, Michigan. The store is more than a Coffee and Tea Shop, it is a gathering place for folk to relax in front of a fireplace on one side and a big garage door size window on the other side. They also offer a specialty shop with Gourmet and Specialty Gifts
Owners Alisa and Mark Maul say the Blue Heron offers a variety of fresh brewed coffees and teas to enjoy in a warm and inviting seating area. They also offer are a large selection of specialty gifts such as Olivewood bowls, trays and serving pieces, vintage aprons, jams, sauces, marinades, and the best quality oils and vinegars on the market. As the holidays approach, Alisa and Mark will also be offering seasonal gifts & baskets arriving on a weekly basis.
The Maul’s were both born and raised in California. They were married in 1988, traveled and raised two sons. Alisa said they moved to Michigan in 2001. Not knowing a soul they had no idea where to start looking for a home. They drove around in the area for a while and found Flat Rock’s small town setting inviting.
Over the years, they have owned several small businesses included a vegetable farm with a variety of vegetables that were grown, picked and shipped throughout the United States, as well as a nursery that provided trees, shrubs and plants to local homeowners and businesses in the Fresno, California area.
Currently, they own and operate Home Source Property Management, Inc. founded in Michigan in 2005. Home Source manages the rental and upkeep of apartment buildings, condominiums and single family homes in Wayne and Monroe Counties.
Alisa is a member of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) in The City Flat Rock.

“Ultimately, Mark and I want to be an integral part of the Flat Rock’s economic revitalization through the development of our “Main Street”, Huron River Drive.” Alisa continued by saying “This new business venture began with the desire to meet the needs of Flat Rock residents for a place to gather and shop while instilling a sense of community pride. Our plan, however, is to make Blue Heron Trading Company into more than just a shopping venue.”

Future plans for the Blue Heron include “After Hours” events such as cooking demonstrations, chocolate making classes, meet and greet sessions for local artists/authors and so much more. In fact, our first “After Hour event will be a pallet painting class scheduled for mid-October. Alisa and Mark are looking forward to meeting you, so please stop by and visit them and their staff at Blue Heron Trading Company!
