Have a Safe and Happy Halloween 2022

October 29, 2022 By Joe Pagano

FYI- Trick or Treat Hours in Flat Rock have changed.  The new Hours are 5:30 PM to 8 PM.

Kids love Halloween! They get to dress up and get free candy! What a perfect holiday! Give your kids some precious Halloween memories that they’ll have for life.

Some of you kids already know things that you can do to be safe, like how to cross the street, not to talk to or go with strangers and things like that. But we adults know how exciting Halloween can be and that can make you forget to be careful.

Here’s some tips that we have just for your kids, to help keep you safe on Halloween night! Some of these ideas are called “common sense” ideas, that means that they are things that you should know and use every day in life. You are never too young to learn!

After Trick or Treating you are invited to the Flat Rock Community Center from 7-9PM for Games Prizes and Pizza.

The 2022 Election Day is Tuesday, November 8

October 7, 2022 By Joe Pagano

Federal, State, County and Local election. Flat Rock, Mi

Flat Rock along with the rest of the country will be voting on November 8, 2022.

Below is an example of the ballot for our area.  The ballot is for one of the districts in Flat Rock and may not reflect all districts.

Americans first began the custom of weekday voting in 1845, when Congress passed a federal law designating the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November as Election Day.

Before then, states were allowed to hold elections any time they pleased within a 34-day period before the first Wednesday in December, but this system had a few crucial flaws. Knowing the early voting results could affect turnout and sway opinion in states that held late elections, and those same last-minute voters could potentially decide the outcome of the entire election. Faced with these issues, Congress created the current Election Day in the hope of streamlining the voting process.

Just a note, absentee ballots are available from the clerk’s office at Flat Rock City Hall. Click here for the City of Flat Rock Clerk’s Office information.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
