March 9, 2014 By Joe Pagano

2014 Banner Sponsorship Available

The DDA wants to THANK all businesses, groups and individuals who participated in the 2013 Banner Sponsorships.  We were able to beautify our downtown by hanging over 60 banners last year.

In 2013 we faced some unforeseen challenges, including deteriorated hanging hardware, vandalism, and other issues that caused banners to be damaged or fall down. We apologize to all sponsors whose banners were affected. This year, in an effort to address those problems, we have purchased all-new equipment to hang the banners from the light poles.

For the above reason we are offering to re-hang all who sponsored banners in 2013 an opportunity to re-hang your banners free of charge for 2014.  We will also replace any banners damaged last year at no charge.

For those 2013 businesses and other sponsors please click herefor more information and proper paperwork. Please note, not all locations are available for no cost.  Click here for those details.

For NEW sponsors, banners offer an advertising opportunities that many businesses and community members chose to take advantage of by putting the name of their business in front of the over 30,000 cars per day that pass through Flat Rock’s business district via a sponsor tab that hangs below the banner.

This year, we are once again reaching out to businesses and asking for your participation. For only $150, you can help spruce up our city during the summer months and reach potential new customers 24/7. In future years, we will re-hang your banner for a reduced fee.

The design of the banners and the available locations are enclosed. Banners will be hung in May and will stay up until Thanksgiving, weather permitting. To request a banner location, please Click Here then follow the information on the attached form.  All previous and new banner purchases must be to  listed address by April 1 2014.  We will also be able to assist at the Business Forum on March 20, 2014 at Salute’s Restaurant.

WELCOME TO FLAT ROCK

The first Euro-American settlers in Flat Rock were Michael Vreeland and his five grown sons between 1811 and 1820. Michael had been captured by British Rangers during the Revolutionary War and released after American independence.

The family purchased 800 acres (3.2 km2). The town was called the Village of Vreeland until 1838 when the Vreeland family sold off the majority of the land and relinquished control of the area. The Vreeland families built the first grain and lumber mill, having brought the grinding stones from New York.

Descendants of Michael Vreeland still live in the town and attend Flat Rock public schools, being the seventh generation to reside in the town their family founded.
