The business will even share in the cost by offering a discount for any neighbors who choose to share the love.
“It’s definitely something that’s close to home,” says Nichole Kahl, For the Love’s General Manager, “It’s a great feeling paying your bills on time, but sometimes your food runs out before your next check and that’s ok, it happens. Our FTLON benefit is there to help those who are in need, in any way!”

Old Town Bar in this month’s Featured Business
Juanita and Walt have owned and operated Old Town Bar in Flat Rock for thirty-two years!
Back in 1987, the previous owner offered the bar to Juanita and Walt with a deal they couldn’t pass up.
In 1988, they officially took over the bar. Now, after thirty-two years, they are still going strong.
Juanita and Walt have felt the local ebb and flow of their customer base, with things a little slower now that many of the small factories around have closed. As a result, they don’t open at 7:00 am anymore.
Regardless, Juanita and Walt look back on their long history with fondness. Their employees have been with them for many years, with Juanita and Walt feeling blessed that most worked ten years or more at Old Town.
They are especially proud of their two boys, being a major part of bar operation through their help in cleaning, bar-tending, and parking lot maintenance. The owners attribute much of their son’s strong work ethic and determination to how they were raised and worked.
The two of them feel very lucky for all the years of support and all the things they have been able to offer their sons and each other. Juanita reflected that the people of Flat Rock are “hardworking, good people, just everyday good people.” She has tried to show that support back by doing countless fundraisers for people who have fallen ill and are in need of help from their community.
But it’s not all family and business at Old Town Bar, Juanita has a Halloween party every year this being her thirty-first annual Halloween Party. Juanita and Walt joked that Juanita’s alter ego comes out that night, called Lola by the pair.
Every Friday and Saturday, they have Karaoke, where Juanita is a big crowd pleaser in singing anything from Motown to country. At Old Town, she gets the singing started and the crowd takes over.
Visiting Old Town Bar, it is plain to see this is one of Flat Rock’s hidden gems. Juanita and Walt are genuine hardworking people. As many know, their bar burgers are the best around; fresh and cooked to order. People come from all around to get an Old Town Burger. The beer is cold and the company is great, so if you haven’t been, stop in.
Old Town is truly a great little place and you won’t be disappointed.

B.Y.O.B, or Build Your Own Burrito is firstly a family business that opened three years ago here in Flat Rock. It is largely unknown that fifteen years ago the restaurant was called Julio’s. Emanuel and Josue worked to open the restaurant again as B.Y.O.B. A year ago, Maria and Sal took over management of the restaurant. Maria comments, “I love Flat Rock. it’s the cutest little hometown. SHOP LOCAL – SHOP FLAT ROCK
Wimpy Burgers is March 2019 Business of the Month
Steve the owner of Wimpy Burger has a lot of nostalgia with the iconic Flat Rock hamburger restaurant. The former M&M’s was a common stop for Steve and his parents. He dad worked at the Ford plant, their drive from Detroit to Flat Rock usually consisted of a stop at M&M’s for some sliders. Steve said when he heard the building was up for sale he jumped at the opportunity to open it back up to it former M&M glory. We think Steve hit it out the park.
Wimpy opened in March of 2015 with great success. The famous slider burger is Wimpy Burgers’ biggest seller. The locals love the slider. Steve said he has nothing but support from the community. Steve has always been an entrepreneur, he’s experienced in customer service. He has a good crew to help him. Steve’s daughter, Tiffany, has worked side by side with her dad from the beginning. Steve’s girlfriend, Kim, is always a familiar face, she’s behind the counter serving the customers. Steve has shown his dedication to Flat Rock and Flat Rock has noticed. Wimpy Burger is serving up some great food.
